Registration after 30 days notice publication
Hello,
I am confused now and that is why I write to you.
I am Canadian and I came to India to register my marriage to an Indian woman under the Special Marriage Act. We went to the registrar already and we received approval to publish our intent to marry. We are waiting for 30 days before registering it.
I am in India now and I have already submitted my NOC from the Canadian embassy. Someone told us that in order to register the marriage, I would need a non-objection certificate from the police where I currently stay too. I went to the local police station in India but they redirected me to the commissioner office.
My research did not produce any result concerning that document but I don't want to put registration at risk.
Thank you for your help.

I am confused a bit again now. Out of the 15 answers I got for the question that I posted previously, 12 of them say that I don't need such a document. However 3 people suggest us ways to get the NOC from the police station. And to my surprise they all are from Tamil Nadu and it is where I am currently trying to get my marriage registration done. We were told by the lawyer we hired, that this document was asked by the marriage registrar and he also obliges to it, instead of saying that there is no such thing required. I am just wondering if the law is different for Chennai, Tamil Nadu alone. Also I made attempts to get the NOC document online as it was suggested from one of the answers posted here and I am not able to get it done, because the online application applies only for residents of Tamilnadu.
