I'm about to be married in India very soon and I and my fiance have already submitted our marriage registration application under the Special Marriage Act and we have received a date for the solemnization of marriage as well. My fiance is an Indian citizen and resident. I understand that given my non-resident status it is mandatory for me to register the marriage which will happen under the Special Marriage Act. However, I wanted to know if it is also legally required for me to change my marital status on my passport after I get my marriage certificate.
