• Defamed

I am a widow and one women of my town thinks I have a affair with her husband which is totally a lie.
She calls me, comes to my house and shouts and abuses me in public, she messages all atrocious things to me and threatens me.
I had given an application to do about the same 2 years back but she is still doing the same.
I'm mentally harassed and my name is defamed.
How can I stop this.

Hello,

send a legal notice of defamation to her and if she doesn’t stop thereafter then file a FIR against her and also a civil suit for injunction.

Serve her with a legal notice, calling upon her to forthwith stop indulging in this act of defaming you. Also, seek compensation from her, for the injury/damage that has already been caused to your repute. Also, seek an unconditional apology from her. In case she fails to comply with the legal notice, file a case against her

In order to sue for defamation of character, it's not enough that somebody express or publish a defamatory statement. There must also be real damage caused by the statement. The statement must be published (meaning some third party must have heard it), false, and it must result in harm, usually to the reputation.

You can lodge a criminal complaint against her for the nuisance she is doing to you besides, you can even file a private criminal complaint under section 500 IPC for defamation.

If you feel that she has ruined your name and fame in the society by such derogatory remarks and unruly behavior to insult you in the public, you can very well file a suit claiming damages too besides the above two cases.
