• Mother's name mistake

My mother's name is Raakhi Sinha. While her name in my document is Rakhi Sinha. I got a late registration of my birth, and there also written Rakhi sinha as my marksheet was used as reference. Now i have a consistent spelling mistake of my mother in my all documents. I have applied for Upsc based on my certificate. Will it create problem in future? Changing name in each certificate is tedious.
Any possible alternatives, to make it right.
If i initiate a change birth certificate , how will i proceed as i have no document stating right name of my mother.
Can it pose future problem in processes like insurance, NRC etc.

You can make necessary affidavit to its effect stating both names are same. Changing birth certificate records is not easy and can only be allowed for incorrect recording of names

Dear Querist

file an application before the Registrar (of birth and death) certificate and get new/Duplicate/Corrected date of birth certificate.

in case, in other documents you want to change the name of your mother then it is depend on the documents in which you want to change and you may contact the concerned authority for the same.

it may create problem in your selection and at that time it will be very difficult for you to do the correction, so it will be better to change the same.

or published a notification in the official Gazette of the Govt. that the name of your mother as Raakhi Sinha is the same person whose name's spelling is Rakhi Sinha.

The option you have now is to make a name declaration affidavit of your mother mentioning all her documents along with names mentioned on them.

And Name you want to mention in future documents on basis of that affidavit you can apply for change of name in all the documents on which name  can be changed.

The minor spelling mistake of your mother's name may not be considered as a big issue.

By the way why do you have to write your mother's name in the UPSC examination application form?

If you are so particular about this spelling in the name, then you may have to obtain an affidavit stating that both the names are one and the same and your mother is known by both the names, which will suffice the issue but make sure that you use only one name at all places in future.

Name of mother in the birth certificate cannot be changed for any reason now.

You can get the name changed through the government gazette publication which will be more than sufficient and it is the only authentic proof for the change of name.

Your mother's name can be changed or authentified by this affidavit also.

2. Your problems will be solved once you get the passport without any legal hassle with the name of your mother given in the certificates other than the birth certificate.

See as far as marksheet are concerned you can file for rectification of same in fix time period only after that it cannot be rectified .

Depending upon board to board you can file an application for correction ans rectification of marksheet and if they deny then you can file writ before high court.

Though see all your documents have same name so going into issues of change is not advisable the affidavit shall help you in case of discrepancy otherwise you have same name in all the documents.

Dear Sir,

Yes, It can be corrected. Just contact your Birth Registration office and they will tell you about the whole process.
Usually after correction your mother's correct name will be written in alias along with the wrong name.
It can be a as simple as providing an affidavit sworn in your mother's name or else you will have to file a name correction file which can be  very hectic process. Anyway be ready to find some contacts in the concerned department. Good luck.

9th class certificate not relevant.

Neither name will change in otehr certificates. Just get notification that your mother actual name spelling is Rakhi sinha which wrongly entered in your certificates as Raakhi sinha due mistake in your birth certificate.

Since you are appearing to be confused about the next step to be taken in this regard as well as  which name is to be used, you may please prepare an affidavit stating that both the names are pertaining to one and the same person.

The affidavit duly notarised is a very much legal document after which you will not find any problem in using the name what you have been using it in all the documents so far.

Changing the name of your mother in the birth certificate or in the 10rth and 12th marks sheet is not possible at this stage.

No writ petition may be entertained by high court in this regard, hence you may adopt the procedure as suggested here.

1.  No, especially when you have an affidavit sworn by your mother in this regard as suggested , duly notarised.

2. You do not have to so curious or anxious or cautious on this petty matter.

Your mother's name is not important.

There won't be much importance attached to your mother's name, moreover you are going to enclose the documents which hav your mother's name as is mentioned by you in the application, hence just do not be so much frustrated over this petty issue.

1.  In affidavit you first concentrate on what is to be affirmed and then attach the documents if necessary, otherwise there is no need to attach any documents to the affidavit.

2. The affidavit can be attested by any notary public.

3. You can approach a notary public, who will be having ready made formats for all occasions.

4. You can get the affidavit prepared before applying for the passport.

5. No documents need to be attached.

6.. You can give just issue a public notice in a local newspaper which would suffice.

7.  You approach the notary public who will explain you the exact contents to be typed on the affidavit.

8. Photocopy will be sufficient.
