The quota of general category candidates is 10 percent. Persons who come under this category would be given certain benefits. They may be economic or age related or certain seats would be reserved for them or all of these benefits. It would be clarified in the govt notification later on.

  1. As per the information mentioned in the present query, makes it clear that you being from the economically weaker section of the general category (hope I got you right), want to know the age relaxation in the government recruitment.
  2. As per Now, there is no statute or law or notification under which you can really claim it as of being your right.
  3. But, let me check if I can find any case law or something which can help you in your future.

Dear Sir,

The following information may kindly be read:

Modi government’s decision to give 10% job quota to economically weaker sections will fundamentally alter the options available to millions of candidates in general category, who will enjoy relaxations in terms of age limit and number of attempts to apply for government jobs, including prestigious and highly coveted civil services.

Once the new quota comes into effect, job aspirants from general category could enjoy similar relaxations given to OBC candidates. The OBC candidates currently have an upper age limit of 35 years and nine attempts to crack civil services examination while candidates from general category have an age limit of 32 years and are allowed only six attempts. For SC/ST candidates, upper age limit is 37 years and there is no limit on the number of attempts.

“The government will bring in another bill that will deal with all these aspects,” a senior BJP Rajya Sabha member told Financial Express Online.

The age relaxation was given to SC/ST/OBC categories because they were not getting filled up due to lack of applicants.

There is 10 percent reservation from the central government. The Karnataka state has given 2 years relaxation for the same in KAS exams that is upto 37 years for general ebc.

If the EWS rules provide for age relaxation then it would be applicable.

The government may bring another bill to provide relaxations for EWS of General Category in the government jobs with respect to the upper age limit, number of attempts, and cut-off marks, similar to OBCs.
