Duration of employment is 28 th December to 23 rd July
I joined railways on probation on 28 Dec 2017.The appointment letter stipulated notice period of 14 days.I tendered resignation on 23rd July .Since I was ill I didn't complete notice period.My resignation was conveyed through office order dated 28 August stating that resignation is hereby accepted wef 23 July.Now I am filling form of govt job giving details of employment.I am confused as to what should I write as duration of employment 28 Dec to 23 July or 28 Dec to 28 August

The duration of the employment is from 28 Dec to 23 July as the resignation is accepted with retrospective date from 23 July.
The date of acceptance of your resignation makes your resignation valid and complete .
In other words your date of resignation would be treated on the date when the same was communicated to the company and the date of acceptance of your resignation has nothing to do.
So duration of your employment would be calculated from the date of joining to the date of communication of your resignation letter.
