• Land a person can hold in panchayat and city limits

How much agricultural land a person can hold in states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, which are in city limits, How can a person save land from land ceiling.

irrigated with one crop is 10.93 hectares

For Maharastra land ceiling is governed by “Maharashtra Agricultural lands Ceiling on Holding Act, 1961”

and the following land ceiling exists for individual as well as family:-

Land with assured supply of water for irrigation and capable of yielding at least two crops in a year - 18 Acres

Land which has assured supply of water for only one crop. - 27 Acres

Land which has un-assured supply of water for only one crop. - 36 Acres

Dry Land situated in Mumbai Sub Urban District and Districts of Thana, Raigad, Ratanagiri, Sindhdurg, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Sironcha talukas of Chandrapur District which is under paddy cultivation for continuous period of three years. - 36 Acres

Dry Crop Lands other than all above lands. - 54 Acres

For Gujarat, it's 54 Acres.

Dear Sir, Yes limit is there, it is governed by land ceiling laws which are different for each state. The land ceiling can also be different for each district within the state and is dependent on the class of land, individual/family etc . For Maharastra it is governed by “Maharashtra Agricultural lands Ceiling on Holding Act, 1961” and the following land ceiling exists for individual as well as family:-

Land with assured supply of water for irrigation and capable of yielding at least two crops in a year - 18 Acres

Land which has assured supply of water for only one crop. - 27 Acres

Land which has un-assured supply of water for only one crop. - 36 Acres

In general Individual land ceiling for standard land in Kerala is 5 Acres, Tamil Nadu - 30 acres, West Bengal - 24.7 acres . Companies are exempt from this rule.

The Urban land ceiling was governed by Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976 which has got repealed in lot of states.

In gujarat the land ceiling is based on type of agricultural land that is in case of irrigated with two crops it is 4.05 to 7.29 further in one crop 6.07 to 10.93 further dry from 8 to 21.85. (All units are in hec.)

Further in Maharastra the maximum land ceiling is 54 acres.

IT can be converted in NA if still ceiling is not applicable,

1. In the case of state of Maharastra, the Maharashtra Agricultural lands Ceiling on Holding Act of 1961 holds charge and as listed below, this much of land is available:

Land with assured supply of water for irrigation and capable of yielding at least two crops in a year - 18 Acres

Land which has assured supply of water for only one crop. - 27 Acres

Land which has un-assured supply of water for only one crop. - 36 Acres

Dry Land situated in Mumbai Sub Urban District and Districts of Thana, Raigad, Ratanagiri, Sindhdurg, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Sironcha talukas of Chandrapur District which is under paddy cultivation for continuous period of three years. - 36 Acres

Dry Crop Lands other than all above lands. - 54 Acres

2. As far as the state of Gujarat is concerned, the land is admissible at 54 acres;

The ceiling in Maharashtra for two crops is 7.28, one crop is 10.93 and 2.93 hectares for dry land

Prohibition on holding land in excess of ceiling area and area in excess of ceiling

to be surplus lands

determining surplus land from the holding of a person, or as the case may be, of a

family unit, the fact that the person or any member of the family unit has died (on or

after commencement date or any date subsequent to the date on which the holding

exceeds the ceiling area, but before the declaration of surplus land is made in

respect of that holding) shall be ignored; and accordingly the surplus Land shall he

determined as if that person or as the ease may be, the member of a family unit hid

not died.
