Without recognition of such body asking for partiupcation on payment of feesfor in any competition is not permissible.

Had it been without any participation fees then it would have been fine.

Since it is on payment of fees then without approval of government agencies do not proceed to do so.

Yes, since this is not a game of chance, but purely an academic contest which is based on merit and skill, you may charge fee per entry.

This is legal in India and can be operated online.

Yes you may charge them for entry, since the result is not based on luck you are at liberty to start the competition.

Some general terms and conditions are to be made before starting such competition.

Hi

1) Your's seem to be a great idea (online essay writing contest)

2) Given the costs involved in web design, hosting, content management, labour costs etc, your idea to charge the contestants entry fees plus taxes is as per law.

3) However since there is an entry fee charge to contestants, it is recommended that you should also publish Terms of Entry in your portal prior as part of your promotional campaign.

In general terms of entry contains the following:

a) Competition Time lines- submission deadlines, shortlist dates, Winning stories announcement date etc.

b) Eligibility(Author of entry)- Age criteria.

c) Eligibility (Story) -

Please ensure to add the following phrase in your eligibility(story) criteria-

All stories must be written in English and be entirely the author's own work. Entries must not have been published elsewhere in print or digital form, including online. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but should a story be accepted for publication elsewhere, the author agrees to inform you and the story will be withdrawn from the competition, in which case no refund of the entry fee will be given. No illustrations are permitted.

d) Entry Fee- The entry fee is Rs15-/- per story. All entries must be made through the appropriate form on our website and time line for payments should be published.

e) Exclusive rights- Authors of the winning stories grant you exclusive right to internationally publish the stories as in print and ebook editions, including reprints and new editions.

f) First prize- , Second Prize, Third prize.

g) Limitation in Words per entry.

h) No Refund clause-

i) Judges and terms of selection of Winner.

Hope this information is useful.

Hi, it is okay to charge the entry fee , there is no legal obstruction to it .. However the disclaimer that you have prepared needs to be modified with some legal clauses

The terms and conditions are to be decided by the person who will be in charge or founder of such innovative schemes.

You can decide about including or deleting any more such conditions, the willing participant shall participate.

This is not an illegal thing hence nothing to be worried about it.
