We are an association of retirees located at Hyderabad, Telangana 1. Is it necessary to register our association under society's act in order to get PAN card? 2. Once registered as society, can we become chapter/branch of another society registered in another state. or we have to seek affiliation? kindly clarify

1) It is not necessary to register under Society's Act to obtain pan card. You can form a partnership firm and apply for pan card in the firm's name.
2) If you decide to register your association as a society you will need affiliation to be a branch of another society registered else where as you both are separate entities legally.

2) you can seek affiliation with another society
1. if you want to open a chapter of a specific society you may take affiliation. the parent society may open its chapter by written permission of society registrar following with amendment in its memorandum.
2. if you want a PAN card in name of society you should register the society under society registration act.
1. You should register the society to obtain a PAN card for it. Registration would give a legal status to the association, on which basis you may apply for PAN card.
