Housing association forcing it's decision

I live in group of Bungalows and row houses where all owners have formed a HOUSINGOWNERS ASSOCIATION for maintaining common utilities like electric bills, maids etc. We have a bank account and pan card. I never questioned the validity of that and regularly give my maintenance fees. However it's not a registered society or ever an registered association per se. We have a gate for last 20 years which needs some color work and minor repairs. Now instead of minor repairs society members want to build new gate for couple of lacs which I don't agree to. Now they are forcing me to pay extra over and above maintenance cost which is out of my budget. Am I legally liable to agree to these association members on such unnecessary and extravagant costs? As per my land deed I am individual owner of my plot, which I have purchased directly from the land owner and over which I have built my row house. There is a common open plot also and I am entitled to use COP as per my land deed. Can the other members create any issue on that?
