A delay of more than 75 days in getting Rectification (name spelling) done by Sub-Registrar

My father-in-law has registered some land to my wife as a 'Gift' in a Sub-Registrar office (at a village). However, immediately after receiving the registered document we realized an inadvertent mistake in my wife's and my names in 'Presentation Endorsement'. Hence, we requested for the rectification in names by submitting an application on the day we received the registered document itself. - On repeated follow-ups, the Sub-Registrar office has corrected our names only in Check-slip (Slip 18 or something) and has asked us to re-submit an application for change in the registration document also (which I think is unfair). - We re-submitted an application for the same and now it has been more than 75 days since our first submission. Moreover, the Assistant Registrar has told us that they are awaiting permission from Registrar office. He mentioned that they will not follow-up for the same and I have to directly approach the Registrar office if I want (which I think is critically unfair). I think it is Sub-Registrar's responsibility to follow-up with Registrar to get the job done. Question 1) Please suggest on how can I escalate the issue (preferably online). Question 2) Please let me know any rights that I may have if the Sub-Registrar asks me again to follow up with the Registrar directly.
