Token amount returned by myself (seller) one month after verbal agreement, buyer demanding money

Hello,I am a 71 yr senior citizen, I recently negotiated a deal to sell my apartment on 7th october 2018 and took a token amount of 1 lac from the buyer, everything was verbal(,the buyers friend was one witness) and no document or agreement of any kind was signed. After about a month i decided to not sell the flat and I returned the token amount along with saving bank interest for the month and also offered to the buyer to pay 10000 extra for any hassles he may have faced. But the buyer is demanding 70 thousand saying that he liquidated his FD,s prematurely to pay me after the sale deed which was to be done next month, also he sold his gold to pay me future installments and is demanding the 12 percent gst he incurred on that transaction . Am I legally liable to agree to his demands considering the fact that not a single piece of paper has been signed. His lawyer did give an ad in paper on 23rd october 2018, required to get the title clear certificate, but the ad only mentions my name and that i have sole rights of my property, nothing else is mentioned. Now the buyer and his lawyer are pressuring me saying its my moral duty to compensate the buyer for his “loss” .Am I legally liable to agree to his demands considering the fact that not a single piece of paper has been signed. Kindly advice
