Divorce Petition - Filed in India

Hello, My wife filed for Divorce in India under Section 13(1)(ia). She should have filed for Mutual Consent divorce; however her petition fell under mental cruelty. I live in the UK and she has moved back to India. I was not able to attend the court date given so I arranged for a lawyer that I found on the internet who asked me to pay 1Lakhs to represent me. I wrote a statement in response to the petition and mentioned that I agree for the divorce and my reasons for needing the divorce. I had no choice as I was running out of time so I paid the money. There has been 5 court hearings since I received the petition and my lawyer has only been telling me that the petitioner hasn't been attending court. The purpose of hearing on the e-Court status site says 'Counter' on all four hearing dates. I don't know what this means. I finally managed get my wife to speak to me and she advised me that she just wanted a divorce and did not mean to file for mental cruelty and that she expected that it would be mutual consent. She confirmed that she is not filing for alimony or any maintenance. She mentioned that the reason why the case is delayed is because my lawyer has been asking for more time for me to appear in court. I always told him that I won't be able to attend court. At the moment, I am just blindly waiting to see what will happen in court in the next hearing. My wife is advising me to inform my lawyer not to attend court - this is what her lawyer has advised her. I am now confused and don't know what to do or say. Please could you advise?
