Can I buy and use Air-Gun as a hobby in India

Hello everyone, My name is Anuj and I have a few questions regarding buying and using an Air Gun in India. 1. Is it legal to buy(Local arm store or Imported) and use Air-Gun in India which can fire 4.5mm steel pellets or BB pellets? 2. If yes, then can I carry it with me during travel to other state? 3. Would I need a licence to carry an Air Gun? 4. Can police harass me over carrying it in Himachal Pradesh or Jammu and Kashmir? The reason why I chose to buy an Air Gun is because of two reasons. First reason is that I am an avid mountain trekker and camper. Most of the times I carry my tent and pitch it in the mountain treks like near Kheerganga, Malana, Rasol etc. Many times during the night I have encountered face off with wild animals like forest dogs, foxes and bears. Most of the times they may fear humans and sometimes they may attack you if they are hungry or any other reasons. Now after buying an Air Gun I don't intend to shoot and kill an animal. The simple trick is to create enough sound in the likes of a fire shot so that animals gets scared away. Or if they still come to attach, you can injure them to keep them away. Second reason is that it is a good time pass and an amazing hobby to shoot at used pepsi/coke cans or just practice shooting on a tree. Any helpful ideas will be really appreciated. Thank you, Anuj
