Applicability of Tort Law in a life threatening injury

My father had an unfortunate life threatening injury when he fell in a shaft of a malfunctioning lift. He suffered multiple injuries but avoided a huge deal more. He could very well have faced spinal and head trauma. The company who owns the building were negligent in keeping a malfunctioning lift working without warning and there were no trained, designated liftmen or repairmen who came for help. I am a doctor from Maulana Azad Medical College (one of the most elite govt institutes) and given my trust over the HOD of orthopedics and availability of special ward rooms, I got my father surgically treated there only. However, given the extent of possible trauma (can be medically explained), psychological stress and sheer lack of respect for his life by the owners, I am planning to file a case for compensation and punitive damages. The problem I am facing is regarding compensation, I have a massively subsidized (Virtually non existent) cost on paper. I am actually planning for the life threatening situation he was put in by sheer negligence to be my main focus. I don't need money but a token of respect and punishment for their negligence. Being a medico and with a lot friends in hospitals, I was able to provide him life saving first aid and splinting. However, what could have happened if it was somebody else? I want guidance about the probability of my case to be actually having a stand in court. Dr. Vishal Arora
