To officially update his school and board records, you will need to go through a formal legal name change process.

The list of documents you require to update the name in the school records as well as ion the board examination are:

1. Name change affidavit,

2. Newspaper publication announcing the name change in two local newspapers—one in the regional language (vernacular) of your state and one in an English daily.

3. You must submit the affidavit, newspaper copies, and application forms to the Department of Publication (either Central Government or your respective State Government) to get the name change published in the official e-Gazette

Once you have the Gazette notification, you will approach the school principal with:

A Formal Application Letter addressed to the School Principal, requesting the change of records from the old name to the new name, Self-attested copies of the child's birth certificate and updated Aadhaar Card (if already updated with the new name).Copies of your PAN or Aadhaar card to verify guardianship.

Talk to the school's administrative office or head clerk immediately. Ask them if they have already submitted the final registration data for the 10th standard board exams to the State Board. If not yet submitted, then the  school can update it in their internal database and ERP systems directly using your application and the affidavit/Gazette, ensuring his admit card and final marksheet are issued with the correct name from the start. If already  submitted then the  process becomes a bit more tedious. The school will have to forward a special correction request along with your legal documents and an online/offline processing fee to the Regional Office of the State Board.

Do not wait for the final Gazette copy to arrive before talking to the school. The Gazette publication can take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. Inform the school principal immediately in writing that the process has been initiated so they can advise you on the board's hard deadlines for data freezing.

The process to be followed is that of the name change process, the detailed procedure/process has already been explained explicitly in my previous post, you may go through the same and follow it and you should not waste more time on it because the school records about the students are likely to be submitted to the board shortly hence you should not be stranded due to lack of time to follow the process.

Dear Client, Since your son is studying in 10th standard and you want to change both his middle name and surname in the school records, you will generally need the Gazette Notification of the name change, along with the divorce decree, custody order, updated Aadhaar card, and other identity documents reflecting the new name.

As Board examination records are involved, the school will usually process the change only after the required name change formalities have been completed and supporting documents are submitted. You should approach the school administration and confirm the exact list of documents required by the concerned State Board.

If the Gazette notification has not yet been obtained, it would be advisable to complete that process at the earliest, as schools and Boards commonly rely on it for changes in a student's official records.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need further help.
