• Passport renewal police verification adverse report

I applied for the renewal of my Indian passport while residing in Australia. I used my maiden name and my existing address, as I do not have any address proof under my husband's name. I have, however, added his name as my spouse in the application. The police verification was rejected, stating that my husband's address must be included in my passport. How can I resolve this issue?

You have to mention your husband address in your application form and apply for re verification

You did not mention why did not include your husband's address.

If mentioning his address resolves the issue then you better go for this.

This not a adverse report. It is only objection taken by police to data provided by you. Seek correction of application by adding address of husband.

You can apply for the passport based on your address in India having documents. Otherwise you can inform the passport authorities. You can also change your address on adhar to your parents or other address in India. If your husband says that you don’t stay there it will have a negative report. You can inform the passport authorities that the address of husband is your permanent address

It is pertinent that his address has to be mentioned in the application form.

If you have not done that earlier,m you may include his address t least now and try to solve the problem

- Since, you have added husbands name at a later stage , then it is necessary to submit the address proof.

  1. Reapply with Correct Address:

    • If you are residing in Australia and using your maiden name, you don’t need to add your husband’s address unless you want to update it.
    • If the Indian police are insisting, you may need to provide an Indian address where you have valid proof (e.g., parental home).

  2. Submit Additional Documents:

    • If police verification was rejected due to the absence of your husband's address, try submitting:

      • Marriage certificate (to establish the relationship).

      • Indian address proof (Aadhaar, voter ID, or utility bill in your name or parental home).

      • Affidavit (Annexure E) stating that you are renewing your passport with your maiden name and existing address.

  3. Contact Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Indian Mission:

    • If rejection persists, email or visit the Indian Consulate in Australia explaining your situation.
    • Request post-verification instead of pre-verification to avoid delays.

  4. Alternative Option:

    • Use Spouse’s Address: If police insist, update your Indian address proof (bank statement, rental agreement, or in-laws' declaration).

    • Address Affidavit: Submit a notarized affidavit declaring that your permanent address is different from your husband’s.

Next Steps:

✔ Reapply with a valid Indian address & supporting documents.
✔ Contact the Indian Consulate in Australia for assistance.
✔ If needed, submit an affidavit clarifying your address.

Madam,

You are suggested to approach the police authorities as well as passport authorities with the affidavit that when the passport was made, you were unmarried and later you got married and hence the name of husband not included in passport.
