Duplicate passports are not issued.

However, a new passport with different passport number may be issued with fresh validity. The applicant has to apply under the 're–issue' category with reason as Lost/Damaged passport.

you have to pay application fees of Rs 2000 or so

Following documents must be submitted along with the application:

  • Proof of Present Address
  • Proof of Date of Birth
  • Affidavit stating how and where the passport got lost/damaged (Annexure 'F')
  • Police report in original
  • Self-attested photocopy of first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page of old passport, if available.
  • Original EC/Seizure Memo

Cases may also require confirmation from Indian Mission/Post concerned.

The copy of the police complaint, their acknowledgment and report if any, the copy of the EC provided by the Indian consulate and other requirements as directed by the passport authorities along with the application form for reissue of passport may be the documents that you may be required to submit

Besides the documents mentioned in the previous post, you may be required to comply with the following too:

Affidavit stating how and where the passport got lost/damaged (Annexure 'F') Police report in original. Self-attested photocopy of first two and last two pages, including ECR/Non-ECR page of old passport, if available. Original EC/Seizure Memo.

In case of lost passport, you need to apply for re-issue of passport. You may also require confirmation from Indian Mission/Post concerned.

You must cancel a lost or stolen passport as soon as possible.

This will reduce the risk of anyone else using your passport or your identity.

You can report a lost or stolen passport for someone else if they can’t do it themselves.
