• Verification by Intelligence bureau for govt jobs

I have heard that IB verification is done for certain posts in govt? What do they check? Do they again check employment details and criminal details just like police or something else? Do they have knowledge about past private and government employment records or they check only digital records like party affiliation, mails etc ?

For appointments to sensitive posts like in judiciary, police, defence, intelligence, technology etc. background cheque is done by IB. All records physical as well as digital are verified. IB carries physical cheque of history of appointee. It visits all places resided by the appointee, educational institutions attended by the appointee.

- The department of personnel and training has reminded all Central government ministries and department that no non-government official may be appointed as officer  may be appointed as officer on special duty (OSD) to a ministers without the mandatory prior verification of the character and antecedent by the IB.

- Hence, if you are going to join the central government higher services then the verification of IB is must before given the joining.

- They can collect the information from the police authority about the candidate regarding the criminal cases if any against him or not.

private citizens may have to undergo a complete background check by the Intelligence Bureau before they are considered for such senior level positions.

This means they will have to list every detail about themselves for the IB to check, quite like the detailed antecedent checks that are carried out for every government official before their recruitment.

Dear Client,

IB usually check documents verifying the candidate's antecedents and character including birth proof, address proof, education, co-curricular records (if any), criminal records, employment records, government certificates issued in your name are all checked. The criminal records check could be extensive, depending on the ‘sensitivity’ of the job post. Nowadays they do fin-check too. They will ask you for original documents and then examine them microscopically. Any forgery might result in criminal proceeding against you.

Thanks & Regards

A bio-data listing the earlier service details of the non-government official to be appointed as OSD details of creation of the post of OSD with DoPT and finance .ministry approval and IB/police report verifying the candidate’s antecedents and character must be send to the DoPT, which will then forward the same to ACC for final approval. ..

The government has decided to take a re-look at the extent and nature of background checks before appointing retired bureaucrats, judges and non-government officials to key positions in bodies such as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Central Information Commission (CIC).

By the time the exercise — that started last year — is over, private citizens may have to undergo a complete background check by the Intelligence Bureau before they are considered for such senior level positions.

This means they will have to list every detail about themselves for the IB to check, quite like the detailed antecedent checks that are carried out for every government official before their recruitment.
