• Change of surname in parents passport to match my passport

Dear Lawyers,

I want to invite my parents to visit and stay with me abroad but in my passport i just have my parents given name and not their surname added. Now i can't change my passport and would like to stay with their given name. But in their passport how they can remove their surname which is exactly same as their parents name and put a part of given name to their surname.

My passport:
Surame: Ibrahim Ghay**s (dads given name is my surname)
Given Name: Tas***m A*****r
Father name :Ibrahim Ghay**s
Mother name: Ish***th Banu

Father current passport:
Surname:Ansar***n Ghi**s(father given name is his surname)
Given Name:Ibra**m Ghay**s
Father name :Ansar***n Ghi**s

Mother current passport:
Surname:Ibra**m Ghay**s(husband given name is her surname)
Given Name:Ish**th Banu
Father name :Ansar***n Ghi**s

Would like to change fathers passport to:
Surname: Ghay**s (take his second name as surname to match my passport father name)
Name : Ibra**m

Would like to change mothers passport to:
Surname: Banu(take her second name as surname to match my passport mother name)
Name : Ish***th

Thank you.

Change of name can be fine by notification in official gazette and 2 local newspapers

2) also affidavit of name change is necessary

3) then apply for reissue of passport

Hello,

  1. Change of name can be done by making a  gazette publication with an Affidavit for change of name. This has to be published in two dailies, one English and one local vernacular.
  2. Once the change of name is done, you can apply for passport to be issued in the changed name as you wish to have it.

You cannot change the name in the passport without following the procedures for change of name.

They may have to prepare a notarized affidavit declaring their new name by  which their surname is not sufficed.

After that they may have to publicise it by issuing a public in two local newspapers.

Then they may have to submit an application for reissue of passport for issue of new passport with the changed name and for this they may have to attach the copies of affidavit and newspaper to prove that the new name has been effectively changed.

- As per rule , you cannot change or correct the name and parents name even in academic certificates after 2 years of passing the same .

- Further, passport authority cannot accept the name written in short.

- However, your parents can execute an affidavit that both name are same and of one person

- Further , they should publish the same in the official gazette of India and submit the same before the passport authority to correct their names accordingly.

- They should apply for re-issue the passport for the said correction in the name.
