You first of all find out the reason for the alleged social boycott.

If You are not able to get any justified reason then you do not have to be worried about such rumour mongers.

If your parents are also bent upon to listen to the words of those unscrupulous people then you cannot help about it other than to leave the house for your own safety and future well being.

Until and unless there is any evidence for a charge or claim that someone has done something undesirable to you, it may not be possible for you to even issue a legal notice to them under the defamation laws.

Before that please be aware that the imputations i.e., to place responsibility or blame on one person for acts of another person because of a particular relationship has to be proved  substantially before court of law before you plan to initiate any legal action against those persons.

You can consult a local advocate and discuss on all the issues at length and take a decision of what can be done in furtherance.

If you have already filed a complaint against them with the local police, you may follow it up properly so that proper action is taken against them legally by police.

If you lack in following it up then there may not be of any use in giving a complaint also.

criminal defamation can be filed through private complaint with magistrate under section 499 and 500 of indian penal code.

to proceed on a suit for defamation, an individual need only allege that the defendant made a false statement about him or her, that the defendant made an unprivileged publication of that statement to a third party, and that the publication caused damages to the plaintiff in that his or her reputation was ..

the plaintiff can file the suit for defamation against the alleged defamatory complaint/statement to a lawful authority only when it is proved that the same is false and defamatory unless it is defamatory per-se

You shouldn't get involved with these people as nobody wants you to be there. If still you want to be involved ask for police protection.

First you and your husband file a GD in the local police station for intimidating you both. Get in touch with local criminal lawyer and proceed with this. Hope this helps.
