Hello, my passport is updated with wrong place of birth(Updated District instead of Village name) when i initially applied. My birth certificate has correct details. Currently I am staying is USA and my passport is expired, so planning to update it with right details. To update the place of birth the new service VFS Global is requesting for these details A court order issued by a judicial officer, not below the rank of 1st Class Magistrate in India OR a Competent Authority (issues an amendment or correction in the date/place of birth of the applicant. The Competent Authority issuing the amending order should be the same authority whose certification was submitted at the time of the issue of the original passport. The Competent Authority in such cases can be Municipal Authorities (for date/place of birth and Educational Board Authority (for date of birth). Birth Certificate issued by Government/Municipal authorities. Not sure what to do? Do i require court order or amendment would be sufficient? If amendment is sufficient what is the procedure to get it? Can someone guide the process? Thanks in advance

An affidavit before the 1st class judicial magistrate should be sufficient for this but you need to come here in india for that.

- If your birth certificate having correct details , then you can get corrected the same after submitting before the Passport authority.
- Court will grant direction ,if you having correct details with you .
Any procedure that has been suggested is a tedious and time consuming process especially if you want to get the task completed from a remote place.
Thus, you may ignore VFS global service and approach the passport office directly and submit an application for reissue of passport with the name of the birth place modified.
They will guide about the procedures to be followed including the documents to be submitted to support your request.
If the passport authorities insist on affidavit duly attested by sub divisional magistrate, you can get it easily.
You may be in touch with a local advocate of your native for all kind of help in this regard.
In your case gram pradhan can be the competent authority,so obtain from his office, which can be obtained by any of your family member ,you need not to come.
Amendment is sufficient. You can make the application of amendment with relevant documents for the said update of place of birth
