Hi, You are not supposed to change the name in your past record and it is not mandatory. But for your future reference you can change it. If you want to change the name in all your past records then you have to file a suit in the Court.
1. If you have changed your name then all your ID cards and other documents should have been changed accordingly if you have mentioned in your affidavit that "you shall be henceforth known as (your new name).
2. It is required if your affidavit claims that you shall be known in your new name. If it is mentioned that both the names i.e. old and the new belong to you then you may not change all the certificates, if it is not required.
3. You shall have to write to all the authorities issuing the ID card and the certificates enclosing the said affidavit/court order changing your name.
No your don't need to change your name in previous documents like marksheet etc. However, you have to get your name amended in documents such as aadhar and pan
- As per law, you cannot change /correct name etc in your certificates after 2 years from the passing of the said qualification.
- But , you can correct the name in other documents after executing a affidavit and publishing the same in official gazette or after getting court order for the same.
- Hence, if you will get court order , then legally you can change /correct name in all the certificates including documents.
- However, for changing name in the academic certificates , you will have to prove the same, and it can take time for the same, at least 6 months to 1 year and also depend upon the court as well.
Even though you would be successful in getting your name changed through gazette formalities, you cannot change your name in certain documents namely, your school certificates, birth certificate etc. You can get your aadhar card, DL, PAN card, election identity card etc. by formally applying for change of name observing the necessary formalities in this regard.
