• Passport verification issue

I had a passport. Then i changed my name. I then applied for re-issue of passport. Police verification came to my nearest police station but the police are not doing my verification. They said my educational certificates has my old name and my other documents has my new name like bank passbook , aadhar card, pan card, etc so they said they will not do. What should I do? Please contact me immediately through email.

Hello,

you will have to make a same name affidavit and then submit it to the police. If they don’t do the same then move to the High Court.

1. For change of name one has to make affidavit before the Magistrate and once it is done the anomaly on change of name can be cured.

2. So on submitting the necessary papers the authority is bound to re issue passport and if it refuses to do so then you can file writ petition in high court.

if it was done by notification in official gazette and 2 local newspapers then police verification should be done as it explains change in name

If your application for passport is rejected file writ petition in HC against RPO . Mention police are refusing to do police verification on account of change of name and hence passport application rejected

Police have should do your clear verification if you have changed your name by following the official process and by gazette notification.

If they still refuse for clear verification you should give them an affidavit of Name declaration. They will do it after your affidavit.

You can change your name by following the change of name process by first preparing an affidavit and then publish it in a local newspaper, if need be then you can get it published in the government gazette publication also, this will enable police to give a certificate about your verification report.

Your old passport will not be cancelled but its validity may have expired.

You cannot approach high court for this purpose.

You may have to follow the change of name process in order to get your name changed in the passport.
