• To change the Birth Year in my Birth Certificate

Hello Sir/Mam,

My question is that my correct DOB is 1-06-1996 and it is mentioned in my all documents including education certificates and voter id but in my birth certificate it is by mistake mentioned as 1-06-1995 in my Birth Certificate. Is it possible to change the year in my birth certificate and what is the procedure?

after period of 23 years registrar of birth may not agree to change date of birth in your birth certificate

2) you would  need court orders for change of date of birth in your certificate

3) enclose hospital discharge report which reflects actual date of birth

4) affidavit of parents as to your correct date of birth

Dear Sir,

The birth certificate is a public record by the authorities recording the details of your birth — it cannot be changed unless the details are in error. If the year is an error, then go back to the birth registration office (or equivalent) and apply for a correction.

You will have to seek a declaration decree from the competent civil court wherein you have to furnish sufficient proof and substantiate your claim in the form of paper publications inviting objections as well as by filing affidavit to the same effect.

If there are no objections then such a case becomes non litigious and is a mere formality for the judicial official to rectify the error.

Since you must attained majority some 4 years back, I'll advise to quickly initiate the process of rectification so that it may not across that you cause deliberate delay and were sleeping over your rights.

All the best

Now you have two way outs one is that to use your school certificates only as and when required and other one is that if you go to any authority / court for correction then they will rely to the birth certificate and in these circumstances you will have to say to change your DOB on all the educational certificates so first decide that you wants which one and go ahead.

You cannot change your birth certificate or get it corrected until you prove it to be false by producing strong and substantial evidence before court by filing a declaratory suit to declare your correct date of birth and seek direction to the registrar of births and deaths to correct the date of birth in the birth register held in his office.

By the way, how do you say that the date of birth in the birth certificate is incorrect and other places it is correct?
