• Can I legally change my name for Passport, Aadhar, PAN with a marriage certificate from the US?

I will be getting married (as per Hindu customs) to an H1B holder in USA and registering the marriage in USA itself. I will be travelling back to India (without my husband) to change my name and all legal documents before applying for a visa change to go back to USA.
Can I legally change my name for Passport, Aadhar, PAN with a marriage certificate issued from the US without requiring the presence of my husband, since he cant manage to come back so soon?
OR Do I need a separate Indian marriage certificate for all the changes?

you can register marriage in USA with Indian embassy or consulate under provisions of foreign marriage act

2) then change your name by notification in official gazette and 2 local newspapers

See if marriage has been done in US then US marriage certificate is valid you need to make an affidavit of name change then paper publication of same has to be done and once that is completed you need to send copy of affidavit and newspaper cutting for gazette notification along with requisite fee.

Dear Client,

Your marriage will govern under Foreign marriage act. Get it registered at Indian Embassy, certificate issued valid in India and relevant document to get name change. Husband presence not required.

You need to make an application to the concerned departments of Aadhar card, Pan card, passport and any other concerned departments. You need to make a separate application to every department. Every department has a different procedure to make any corrections in their respective id proofs..

It is not mandatory that you have to change your maiden name after marriage.

For change of name you need not have to possess a marriage certificate.

Marriage certificate is not an authority to change your name.

You can adopt the process for change of name by first making a notarized affidavit, then issue a public notice published in a local newspaper about this.

After that along with an application and copy of affidavit and newspaper publication you may approach government press for effecting the change of name in the government Gazette publication.

Then with the copy of Gazette publication you may apply for effecting the new name replacing the old one in passport, aadhar card and other relevant documents.
