Dear lawyers,

I am Saheli Das from Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
In 2016 , I am getting married. In our marriage registration paper, I didn't change my surname.
I want to take my father's address in voter id, adhaar card, pan card . I didn't change my address.
My question is that
1. Can I continue with my parents address in voter id, adhaar card, pan card as because, I doesn't want to take my husband address.
2. Can I continue with my father's surname. I didn't want to change this surname.
3. What is the law, if my in laws want to give any pressure to change address & surname ? Can they give so much pressure to change my address & surname.

1. Yes you can continue but since after marriage you shifted to new constituency then for voting in same your address needs to be changed. You can continue with your pan and name as same as before it under no law prescribed to change surname after marriage.

2. Yes you can continue no law bounds you to change that.

3. No they cannot pressurize you.

The question of address in voter id.card is concerned is regarding voting rights.so in that case when you are married and start leaving separately or with in-laws meaning there by change your address than if constituency change you can register in othe.rconsituency for voting in same.

Also the address used doesnot signifies any patriarchy or anything it is for convenience since the permanent address change may be case.for man it can change in some.parts of India so for sake of brevity it can be changed.

1.You can change your address if you are staying permanently.

2.There is no requirement from law to change a woman's surname after marriage. If the woman chooses to use husband's surname in any legal document or places which ask for legal documents, then she would have to get the name changed as per the legal process.

3. If you are staying there permanently (for example, if you or your husband or both is/are not in a job which is transferable in nature) , then they can say for changing your permanent address. But if you don't want to change, they you can skip change of address. If for any legal documents you need to provide husband's surname, then you might need to change your surname,if required. But if there is no such requirement then you can skip change of surname. If your in laws says then if you wish you can change, but if you want to keep your surname, then you can skip change of surname.

1. Yes, you can continue to use your maiden address in all the public documents. However f you do not stay in your parental address frequently or there is no long distance between the matrimonial home and parental address then it is better to change the address. The PAN card does not contain any address at all.

2.Yes, you can continue to have your maiden surname.

3. Law does not say to change the surname after marriage. So you can lawfully resist their pressure to chance to your surname.

Hi

Yes you can continue with your maiden name without making any changes in the full name, only make changes in the address, marital status if your prefer or like to do it .

No one can insist or force as there is no provision under existing law.

I feel it is a great decision not to change one's name after the marriage.

your marital status will show you Mrs.(with your maiden name with your father's name and surname)

it is always advisable no to change your name as it is not a legal requirement to change your name after the marriage

1. Voter ID Card, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card etc.require your address where you can be traced or contacted, irrespective of whether it is your father's address or your husbands's.It is not taking your husband's address. It is giving the address where you are ordinarily residing. You can very well give your father's address.

2. Yes, you can continue to write your father's surname. There are so many instances of such cases. Law does not forbid you in continuing with your father's surname.

3. Law does not tell you to change your surname and address after your marriage. If any force is created up on you by your in laws to change your surname and address,. you shall have to counter it appropriately.

1. It is your right to choose whatever details you want to retain or add or to delete.

2. You can very well continue with your father's surname itself, there is no legal impediment in it.

3. There is no law forcing you to change your name or surname or your address after getting married.

If they force you to do so, you can refuse to change.

They cannot do anything legally on this.
