• Change of designation when I resigned

Hi,

Recently I resigned from my old company due to my personal issues. One of the problems I have with my old employer is that when I joined the company, the job title was Senior Engineer. As we change departments internally, I was put in some Customer engineering team, and my job title became Senior Customer Engineer. During resignation, I asked my employer to change the title to Senior Engineer as I was working a Senior Engineer there taking the responsibilities. There argument was that in payslips and everything, the job title is mentioned as Senior Customer Engineer, they said they cannot change it now. I have the service level agreement and its mentioned as Senior Engineer, can I pursue them asking for change of job title?

you were employed as senior engineer but worked as Senior customer engineer

2) your experience / relieving letter would mention that you worked as Senior Customer engineer

3) your employer would not change your job title

Yes you can pursue them but if the designation in the pay slip is otherwise then I do not think so that there is any point in pursuing the same, but still you may give it a try.

Issue them a legal notice saying that the FNF Settelment be done after changing your title to senior engineer.

At the time of leaving or quitting the company it will mention the last designation you served with the company.

So if you were working as Senior Customer Engineer a the time of resigning then you can not insist on having the previous resignation mentioned in the relieving letter.'

So in other words I do not find any merit in your claim to have your earlier designation mentioned in the relieving letter or experience certificate.

If this change of designation from senior engineer to senior customer engineer is affecting you negatively, then it make sense to pursue this matter with your ex-employer.

You may send them a legal notice in the matter.

If they are giving you all this then in my advise you must settle for the letter of recommendation.

Legal notice might worsen the things and they might give a negative entry in letter of recommendation

"The ex-employer mentioned that they are ready to provide a letter of recommendation mentioning about the roles and responsibilities about the good work I have done. "

----If you think that the above is going to help you, then I think it makes more sense to settle with this.

If not, you could send them a legal notice in the instant matter. The legal notice will only be helpful to build some pressure upon them to get this done.

Firstly, try to give them a legal notice to change it as would be beneficial for you in the latter future.

Secondly, if they don't, file a case and mention the appropriate conditions in the agreement of job (sure there won't be any such of mentioning change of role)

Lastly, ask for the compensation also.

1. You were recruited as Senior Engineer and has been re-designated as Sr. Customer Engineer as per the requirement of the organisation.

2.The Company is with in its right to re-designate you as per its requirement.

3. You can request the Company to further convert your designation to Sr.Engineer for your future professional requirement.

4. You have no legal recourse left before you if the Company refuses to heed to your request in this regard.

1. As has been mentioned in my earlier post, you have no legal recourse in case your organisation refuses to heed to your request for changing your designation.

2. It will be prudent on your part to accept the proposal of the organisation to give you excellent recommendation which might be useful for your career advancement.

The employer is right in his explanation stating that since you were working as Senior Customer Engineer, the designation in yor relieving letter is rightly mentioned.

In what way is it going make any impact in future employment?

What is your grievance about it?

Yo were recruited as senior engineer, subsequently your post was changed, if you were not liking this post you could have resigned the employment and might have looked for a better employment elsewhere

Until this is not going to create any problem, you do not stir the hornet's nest.

I'm negatively affected by this and I'm worried whether my next employer will take my job role as into consideration and try to provide work which I'm not interested in. The ex-employer mentioned that they are ready to provide a letter of recommendation mentioning about the roles and responsibilities about the good work I have done. Should I settle for this? or Shall I ask them to change it. If i send a legal notice, what will happen as they are not ready to change the job title.

You should not adopt any legal step in this regard.

Instead you can ask your previous employer to give the explanation on this and get them recorded

Try to sort out the things amicably instead of going too proper with the circumstances
