• Harassment in government office

Hello, I am Moumita. I work in MGNREGA as contractual Civil engg from past 7 yrs. I am posted in district head quarter since then. I am mentally harassed by my collegues and boss as well. They behave very well infront of me but they goes to boss and provoke him against me to give the toughest job. My boss ask me to stay after office hours along with them, as it has become a trend to stay at office till 8-9pm to please the boss & the DM. I have requested him that my baby is only 11months old. From the next day he started sending me to visit various blocks which are far from my home. I even asked them to send me to nearer blocks but they denied and on that day itself he got an order out by my name which is the worst. Thrice in week i have to go to another office after 2pm to work there. The worst part is though the office is only 2.3km from my office, but the road condition is so bad & also due to heavy traffic it takes nearly 45 mins to 1hr to reach that office. They are punishing me. I don't have valid evidence but I know that they always makes conspiracy against me. Even when I was in maternity leave they were trying to transfer me in a far away block. I got to know that from a source and manage to stop that order somehow. Previously someone kept condom packet on my office cabinet. They are torturing me mentally. What can I do?

It is in your interest to take a transfer as you are being harassed by your colleagues and boss

2) you can also complain to DM if you are being forced to work in office till 9 pm

3) mention that you have 11 month old baby and cannot work so late after office hours

4) also mention that condom packet was placed in your drawer

5) your complaint of harassment would have to be placed before the internal committee

6) inquiry would be conducted against your boss and colleagues who have harassed you

7) on basis of committee report necessary discipliaction would be taken against your boss

1. This is cruel departmental politics which many employees have to confront when in a govt employment.

2. There is no remedy in a court of law for this as you have not been transferred.

3. You should send a personal representation to the officer senior to your boss and draw his attention to your plight. This is the only thing you can do. If you are transferred then you will have the cause of action to knock at the doors of the court.

- You could report the matter of harassment to the Police.

-You may move a representation against these atrocities before the concerned competent authority, seeking an appropriate relief.

-If a decision is not taken on your representation, you may approach the High Court with your grievances.

You list out all the events that have grieved or horrified you with dates chronologically.

Make a representation to the top management in writing and the send the representation by registered post.

Keep the copy and the receipt of the registered letter safely, if there is no response or no respite despite your efforts, you may resort to legal action under the provisions of harassment of women (prevention) at work place act.

The narration of events on a chronological manner in a letter or complaint form shall be more than an evidence, let them deny it, you can take up things during enquiry by corroborating the events with circumstantial evidence.

Yes, you could still approach the High Court on the ground that the Authorities are sitting over your representation and till date, they have not taken any decision on the same.

In absence of any evidence it will be difficult for you to get a good result in the case. Though you can give a written complaint in this regards to the superior officers.
