• Inter-religion marriage certificate

Hi,

I have married a catholic and I am a Hindu. Its been two years in our marriage and we want to register our marriage. (for unforseen reason this was not done in timely manner). Will we get a back dated certificate?

As per my understanding, the BMC ward office now issues the Marriage certificate. Since our wedding is inter religion, seek advice to understand if this will be issued by the BMC ward office, or will we have to go to the court.

You would not get back dated certificate of registration of your marriage

2) your marriage has been solemnised 2 years back . You must have received marriage certificate from the priest who solemnised your marriage

3) for inter religious marriage it should be solemnised under provisions of SMA

4) registration has to be done with marriage registrar

Get you marriage registered by making an application for registration before the Marriage Registrar. Mention the relevant details such as date and place or marriage and your and your husband's personal details. Getting a back-dated certificate is not possible. You marriage will be registered under the Special Marriage Act.

You will have to go to court and get it registered under the special marriage act, and this can not be issued in back date.

Since your marriage is inter religion, it can be registered under Special marriage act only.

You can approach the local registrar of marriages with the documentary evidences of your marriage and get your marriage registered after complying with the necessary formalities in this regard.
