• Name change dilemma

Hi, my name is "Arun Singh" (as per my Birth Certificate). But my name as printed on my CBSE Board certificates is only Arun (without my last name). It's already been more than 4 years since i passed out of school. Now i want to get my name changed to "Karanveer Singh" (due to some astrological reasons).
So please advise me as to how to go about it since my name is different in CBSE and Birth Certificate. Thanks.

Hello,

That is not a different name just that your full name is not there in CBSE Board certificate, you can first go to CBSE and get your name corrected in the Documents and later you can change your name to Karanveer Singh.

Procedure for changing name is, first you will have to get the thing done on an affidavit, then the same will be published in the newspaper followed by the Gazette.

Before formally undergoing the name of change to Karnveer Singh, you'll have to execute an affidavit and get it notarized as regards to the discrepancy in your current name as reflected from a perusal your birth certificate and CBEsc documents. Execute this affidavit saying that your name in your cbsc certificate has been wrongly shown to be 'Arun' and that your correct name is the one as contained in your birth certificate. Contact a local Lawyer to get this done. On the basis of this duly sworned and notarized affidavit, you may get your name changed to formally to Karnveer Singh.

1) CBSE Board would not add SIngh to your name as more than 4 years have passed since you passed out of school

2) you would need court orders to direct CBSE Board to add your surname as per BC

3) change of name would have only prospective effect

You can make a duly notarized affidavit for change of name from Arun aka Arun Singh to Karanveer Singh and also get it published in the local newspaper.

If you desire to get it published in the government gazette publication, you can proceed.

The gazette copy may be attached to the educational certificates.
