• Missing Death Certificate and Record

Hello sir,

MY GREAT GRAND FATHER DIED IN 1940'S AT OUR NATIVE PLACE IN UTTAR PRADESH BUT NOW WE OUR AT MUMBAI AND REQUIRED HIS DEATH CERTIFICATE BUT THE NAGAR PALIKA DOESNT HAVE ANY RECORD OF MY GREAT GRAND FATHER THEY STATE AS IT IS VERY OLD NOT POSSIBLE TO GET SO WHAT CAN I DO INSTEAD OF DEATH CERTIFICATE

I required cause need to change name on electricity bill as its on my great grand father name. For which BEST Mumbai has asked his death certificate, he passed away much ahead then my fathers birth i.e 1944. Nagar Palika Tilhar, Shahjahanpur states they dont have any death record of this old time.

So sir how am i suppose to deal with this issue, as my grand father as well as my father is no more.

1. The records are to be preserved even if they are more than a century old. The babus in the revenue offices do not work unless their palms are greased with illegal gratification. You should engage a local lawyer in Shahjahanpur to trace out the record.

2. If the record cannot be traced despite all efforts then you may execute an affidavit to state so.

Such ild death certificates is quite expectedly not available with Municipality.

However when situation occurs then any of his family members like son/daughter/grandson/grand daughter can swear an affidavit beofre the Magistrate stating his date of death which is considered to be the valid date of his death within the family.

Suhc affidavit is often accepted as valid substitute of death certificate.

inform BEST that you dont have great grand father death certifcate as he died in 1944 and no such records are avilable

2) for issue of legal heir certifcate from court death certifcate is a must

3) inform service provider that you are willing to furnish an affidavit that great grand father died in 1944 and detah certifcate si not available .

4) enclose letter from nagar palika that records are not available for 1944

You don't need succession certificate for transfer of electricity meter in your name

2)legal heir certificate is sufficient for transfer of electricity meter in your name

3) but you need to enclose death certificate for issue of legal heir certificate
