• Can I adopt my aunt as my mother

My mother passed away 10 years ago. My father left us 15 years ago. I am not in contact with my father. But all my legal documents have my father and mother's names on them. Now my age is 34 and I was raised by my aunt after my mother expired. Now I am married and want to move to UK. I want to take my aunt with me as family just like how I would have taken my mother or father.

I don't know the dependent visa process for UK and their eligibilities. I want know if there is any way for me to adopt my aunt as my mother. I know that it sounds absurd. But I don't want to go through the hassle of changing my documents all over. I just want to have my aunt as my dependent.

Is there any legal way for this to happen?

You can declare your aunt as dependent even if her name is not appearing in any of your document but you can show the blood relationship between your aunt and you and you can declare that your answer do not have any other support and she is to be dependent and you this way it is a possibility there is no adoption process as such to adopt an adult who is elder to you

See if aunt is old you can file a petition before court to declare you legal guardian of the aunt to take her decisions. The court may declare her ad your dependent though documents cannot be changed.

your aunt cannot  legally adopt you as her child at such age

Your age bar is also crossed for adoption procedure. Better to continue the same relationship and nominating every where is needed to each other.

After 18 years, child cannot be taken in adoption. She can apply under UK Adult Dependent Relative Visa.

And nomination dose not give any inheritance right, She have to execute WILL to bequeath her assets after her demise. This is important and indispensable. Execute WiLL.

Apply under dependent visa.

1. You can voluntarily file "declaration suit" in the local Civil Court, for declaration of your Aunt as your "Legal Guardian". A consent declaration of Aunt would be required to be filed in Court.  The Court decree for this would be sufficient for any & all purposes, which includes the UK visit etc....

2. The above is possible even if Aunt is not blood related in anyway. However this would be perpetual.& irrevocable.

Please be aware that adoption is only for children and not for adults.

There is no provision in law to adopt an adult by an adult.

You may look for any other mode i.e., to make her fully dependent on you by creating any authentic document to establish her dependency on you.

You can take care of her and also make arrangement for proper care to her including medical facilities etc during your absence.

However since she is not your dependent mother, you may not be able to take her with you to abroad on the basis of dependent.

the adoption is invalid .

a child must be between the ages of birth to 18 years and be legally free to be adopted.

1. There is no provision of law in India by which you can adopt anybody as your mother.

2. You can declare her as your dependent relative who has brought you up and try to avail your dependent Visa for her.

You can not take her in adoption as your mother as per Indian law as suggested in my earlier post.
