Name change after marriage in USA
I am a Indian citizen female , currently on a H1 Visa working/ living in the US. I am about to start the Green Card process since my marriage to a US citizen 3 months ago. Prior to the GC process I was advised to complete the name change as this will avoid the hassle of making the correction my documents in the future. I would like to change my middle name and last name (new middle name and last name will be husband's family name) Questions are: - would I need to advertise in both India and US newspapers? - or just fill out the affidavit and notarize it prior to rectifying it on my Indian passport? Any input on the steps for going about this name change from an 'Indian citizen in the US, on a valid visa married to a US citizen' or from someone who is familiar with this process would help. The Indian passport site mentions the following: 1. Affidavit of name change (notarized) 2. Gazette notification of the state government concerned or clippings of two newspapers (One from India and the other from USA) regarding change of name 3. At least two public/school documents issued in the desired name Can you please confirm on the following: 1) Is a USA marriage license good for submitting passport name change and addition of Spouse name 2) I live in the USA. Can someone on my behalf file a name change advertisement in India? 3) Do I need to change my Aadhar, voting card etc as supporting documents for above point 3? Thanks in advance!

You have to advertise both in Indian and US newspapers

After name change you should change your name in Aadhar card , PAN Card , election card

You have to follow the name change process in India to change your name because you are still an Indian citizen and also would like to get your Indian passport reissued with the new name.
Therefore it is pertinent that you get an affidavit duly notarized, get the same published in local newspaper and then apply for government gazette publication after which you can apply for re-issue of passport.
