• Change of permanent address for my elderly mom who is living in a flat owned by daughter

My mother (senior citizen) is living in my flat in Kolkata. Sale deed is in my name - solo owner. My mother's aadhar card and all other address proofs point to her old address. How to change her address in Aadhar card with least effort? Electric bill etc in my flat is under my name.

I don't have Aadhar card - I have OCI (Overseas Citizen card).

Can she get a c/o address? Can we open a joint bank account with this new apartment address as a proof of residence for Aadhar card "address change" application?

She can contact any aadhar centre in the local and comply with the requirements for change of address as per procedures.

That will be easy instead of opening a new bank account.

In case you want to update the address in your Aadhaar card, you can do it online or by visiting an Aadhaar enrolment center in your area. You can update your address in your Aadhaar card online through Self Service Update Portal (SSUP). This portal is for those Aadhaar cardholders who want to correct or update addresses in the Aadhaar card, without visiting the office. A charge of Rs 50 needs to be paid while requesting a change in address

2)According to UIDAI, there are 45 documents that will be considered as valid POA for updating the address details.

3)Documents that can be used for Proof of address include  — Passport, bank statement/passbook, post office account statement/passbook, ration card, Voter ID, driving license, electricity bill /water bill/Telephone landline bill/credit card statement/ gas connection bill (not older than 3 months) and property tax receipt (not older than one year)

Easy guide to change address in Aadhaar without proof:

  1. Step 1: Initiate request from resident's side. -Log in to the UIDAI website with your Aadhaar number. ...
  2. Step 2: Verifier needs to give consent for the update. ...
  3. Step 3: Submit the confirmation received on your mobile. ...
  4. Step 4: Use the secret code to complete the process.

it is not mandatory to change the address in the Indian passport. However, updating your passport can be used as proof of address. The address in your passport must be valid to show your real address when you use it for Proof of Identity. In order to change the address on your passport, you need to apply for a re-issue of your passport. Through this process, a new passport will be issued to you with a new number and updated address.

Alternately you can execute a registered gift deed to her name at least a share in  the property,  the address of ther property in gift deed would enable her to use it as her new address.

Dear Client,

Steps to change your address on aadhaar card via online method

Updation of aadhaar card address online can be done using the aadhaar self-service update portal (SSUP). The SSUP portal supports update requests in various languages such as Hindi, Assamese, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu, English, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Oriya, Malayalam and Marathi. As the online update is authenticated by OTP (One-time password), mobile update in the aadhaar record is essential. If your mobile details are updated in your aadhaar records, you can update or change your address on aadhaar card via online method.

Following are the step-by-step process for changing your address on aadhaar card via online method –

  • Log on to the official website of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
  • Click on ‘My aadhaar’ tab displayed at the top left corner on the homepage of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
  • Click on ‘Update your address online’ option under ‘Update your aadhaar’ tab
  • When ‘update your address online’ page opens on aadhaar self-service update portal (SSUP), click on ‘Proceed to Update Address’ if the mobile number is already updated on your aadhaar records.
  • You can log in with your 12-digit aadhaar number (UID) or even with your 16 digit Virtual (VID) number
  • Enter the captcha verification code and click on ‘Send OTP’ button.
  • A one-time password will be sent on your aadhaar registered mobile number or on aadhaar registered email ID.
  • Enter OTP to login to the updation portal
  • Select the address update checkbox
  • Fill in the address details in the relevant field both in English as well as in the local language. Ensure to write the complete address as the aadhaar letter will be mailed to the same address. Following are the important points to remember while filling in the address details –
  • To include Guardian/ parent’s name/ spouse name as a part of your postal address, select the ‘address correction’ option. Then select the appropriate box in ‘C/o details’ and enter the name of the concerned person (guardian/parents/spouse) in the relevant field. ‘C/o details can be a part of address update and hence not mandatory to provide while correcting your address in aadhaar.
  • In case you face any issue regarding PIN code for your area or any such related issues (for the selection of state/district/city/town/village or post office), you can contact Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) contact centre at https://uidai.gov.in/help.html
  • Be it updation of change in address or just c/o details, you are required to provide address proof for aadhaar. However, it is not mandatory to have c/o details in the aadhaar card address proof.
  • Upload colour scanned copies (using the original document) of aadhaar address change documents as per the list of valid documents for address update
  • Review and check all the details entered for aadhaar address change both in English as well as in local languages as correction cannot be done later and fresh request needed to be placed.
  • Submit the aadhaar address change request along with uploaded aadhaar address change documents. Once you submit the request, Update Request Number (URN) will be generated. Note it down for future reference and tracking.
  • You can also save the acknowledgement copy in PDF or take a print out also for the record.
  • In case, you do not have any address proof for aadhaar, you can still change the address in your aadhaar records online via ‘address validation letter’. In the absence of aadhaar address change proof, you can update your present postal address in your aadhaar records with the consent and authentication of the address verifier. That means you can use your family members, relatives, landlord’s or friends address proof if they allow you to use it as address proof for aadhaar.

  • After changing the follwing she can get a c/o address and  open a joint bank account with this new apartment address as a proof of residence for Aadhar card "address change" application.
  • Thank You

1. For changing her address in Aadhar Card, she shall have to apply for the correction. Some address proof will have to be placed like voter ID card etc.

2. If she does not have any such evidence of her present address, she shall have to get an affidavit executed before a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate affirming that she presently resides at present address in the flat owned by her son having such and such OCI number for which the Aadhar Card issuing authority is required to amend her address and issue a fresh Aadhar Card to her.
