• Question on LOC removal

Hi All,

I had LOC issued on me with respect to IPC 498 A(dowry), Now the case is closed and the LOC initiator (who is the ACP of the station) had already sent letter to DGP CID requesting for cancel (I have the unofficial copy of the letter). I have contacted DGP CID office to check the status of the letter they have said that the letter has been sent to Delhi immigration ( I don't have any proof but just the oral communication regarding the same). I have contacted Delhi FRRO to see if LOC is removed on my name but they are saying that they aren't suppose to give those details. How do I confirm if the LOC is removed against the name? Can I travel with the proof of oral communication.

The oral commutation may not be sufficient to permit you to travel abroad.

Therefore until and unless you possess a copy of the letter intimating the immigration authorities about the cancellation of LOC, you cannot be sure about travelling abroad.

You may be prevented by immigration authorities hence better contact the police authorities and obtain a copy of the same to be on the safer side.

You can check the same under RTI with MHA.

File RTI application with FRRO whether LOC has been removed against your name

oral communication has no value .

1) file RTI application.there is no harm in doing so

2) postpone your  trip if possible

3) as on date LOC has not been removed .only request for removal made

1. You cannot get information through RTI Act on this subject.

2. If there's no restrictions then you can travel.

3. Yes you can come to know about it through the immigration counter at airport.

Dear Client,

Information on whether LOC is opened or not is also not available under RTI. Even if a person was arrested pursuant to issuance of LOC and does not face trial for a heinous crime, the trial court or higher courts generally cancel/ suspend LOC by asking the person to give higher surety. And you should confirm that the same then reach at least four hours prior in advance to the airport before travel.

Thank You.
