• Singla Status Certificate for marriage registration in Cyprus

I am currently an NRI and I plan to get married in Cyprus to a non-Indian partner. Cyprus requires a single status certificate apostilled from India. I cannot come to India before the wedding because of Covid restrictions. How can I obtain this certificate as an NRI?

Thank you for your help.

A Certificate of bachelorhood/single-status/eligibility to get married can be issued by a competent court/ SDM having jurisdiction of the area of the residential address of the applicant. This can be in the form of a certificate/ affidavit notarized by SDM which is required to be counter-attested by the Home Department of the State concerned. Thereafter, it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

You may get it done from the embassy. They may issue a certificate based upon your passport and other details you present.

There is no provision in law to obtain single status certificate in India

A revenue inspector or a tahsildar may issue a certificate stating  that on enquiry the person so and so residing in the said address seems to have not been married.

This certificate you can obtain through your relatives by giving an authorisation letter

You may have to better be in India to get the process done in person.

Sometimes your authorisation  letter may not be  entertained.

 Dear Sir,

1) Process - A Certificate of bachelorhood/single-status to get married can be issued by a competent court/ SDM having jurisdiction of the area of the residential address of the applicant.

It can be in the form of a certificate/ affidavit notarized by SDM

It is  required to be counter-attested by the Home Department of the State.

it is to be attested/apostilled by the Attestation Section of the Consular, Passport & Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

2) How -

(a) You can either draft a Special power of attorney to some relative in India, or hire an advocate to complete the process in India and mail the same to embassy of your country for attestation.

(b)Or second option with you will be to use an online third party service made for NRIs that for some fee can get the process and document completed for you.

Thank you
