Apply from Telangana as child born in Telangana
2) he would not get domicile certificate from Maharashtra as he is residing in Maharashtra for only 4 years
BACKGROUND: We are staying in Telangana/Hyderabad. Our child who is around 17 years stays in a boarding school in Mumbai for last 4 years only, prior to which he was in Hyderabad for 8 years Also note that, we, parents have no property or connection or any document in Maharashtra. The child can get certificate from school that he is staying in Mumbai for last 4 years. OBJECTIVE: We want to have a domicile certificate only for our child, so that he is eligible to apply for the state's entrance exam for Engineering/Medical after class 12th. I am open to apply from any state (Telangana or Maharastra) QUESTIONS: 1. Please advise, from which state he should apply for the domicile certificate- From Telangana or Maharashtra ? 2. I see that it is written that one has to be residing for 15 years in state to get the certificate. Is that mandatory, or based on last 4 years of stay he can get the Domicile certificate from Maharashtra? 3. Or, does it make sense to apply from Telangana as we the parents are staying there. Please advise. Thank you.

2) he would not get domicile certificate from Maharashtra as he is residing in Maharashtra for only 4 years
Dear Sir/Ma'am
You can apply for getting the domicile certificate from Telangana itself and not from Maharashtra. Since your child is only staying in Maharashtra for 4 years, you wouldn't be able to get the certificate from that state. To obtain the domicile certificate anywhere in India, the person has to be a resident of a particular state for at least six years preceding the period of application. Additionally, if the applicant is below 18 years of age, then the applicant's father must have a valid domicile certificate, or else the application is null and void. Hence, you'll have to get the certificate from Telangana. Thank You
Hello Anki, Ajay, 1. So, the challenge is, in this case, Telangana may say, since he is not there for last 4 years, so they can refuse to issue even if parents are staying. So, he does not get from Telangana. So, ultimately, from which state to get Domicile certificate? If someone is staying in India, he should be eligible to get from one state. 2. Isn't it possible to say that he is residing for last 4 years only and based on that 3. You are saying last 6 years of stay is requried, while many sites, specifies that, one has to stay for 15 years. Are there different types of certificate based on 6 or 15 years.
In Maharashtra you need to stay for 15 years to be eligible for domicile certificate
2) he would not be eligible for domicile certificate from Maharashtra
- As per rule , the person should be a resident of a particular state for at least six years preceding the period of application.
- Further, if the applicant is below 18 years of age, then the applicant's father must have a valid domicile certificate
1. He is entitled to get only from Telgana , due to birth state
- However, after passing his 6 years in Maharashtra , he will be eligible to get the same there as well.
A domicile certificate, often referred to as a residence certificate is an official document that can be used to prove that a person is a resident of a particular State/Union Territory. Issued by the respective state government/UT administration, this piece of paper allows individuals to peacefully reside in their respective states thereby allowing them to use all the utilities provided by the government. Individuals from any caste, category or group can apply for this certificate.
It is important to note that a woman who gets married to a person who is a permanent resident of a particular state automatically becomes eligible to submit an application for a domicile certificate for the same state.
If you are willing to apply for a domicile certificate, you need to refer to the respective state’s portal. It essentially requires you to be a permanent resident of that particular state.
An individual who is living or whose parents are permanent residents of a particular state for more than 3 years can apply for a domicile certificate. This duration of residence may vary from state to state.
