• Pseudonym Copyright Issue

My friend's real name is Vicky Patil but he wants to publish his book with the pseudonym Vicky Patel.
He wants the pseudonym on "Cover" and "Title" pages while real name on "About the author" and "Copyright" pages.
Can the slight spelling difference in "Patel" and "Patil" be an issue while registering at the government for the copyrights of the book in author's real name?

The real name has to be mentioned before tg3 government otherwise it may amount to a wrongful act of giving false information. You may write the name in the book elsewhere.

Copyright does not protect pseudonyms or other names.
If you write under a pseudonym but want to be identified by your legal name in the Copyright Office’s records, give your legal name and your pseudonym on your application for copyright registration.

In the case of pseudonymous or anonymous works, the default owner of the copyright in the work is the publisher of the work. This default position remains until the identity of the author is disclosed publicly by the author and the publisher, or is otherwise to the satisfaction of the Copyright Board by that author or the author's legal representatives.

Therefore, a declaration of the real author should be made before the copyright board and if it is not made, copyright protection will be granted only to the publisher of the work. So, you can use a pseudonym in your book by making a declaration as per copyright act and rules.

It is perfectly legal to publish your work under a pseudonym if you are a writer.

The key legal issue is to ensure that this is acknowledged clearly in your publishing contract  - that is, your publisher is aware of your real identity and that you wish to publish under a different name.

Copyright doesn't protect pseudonyms or other names.

If you write under a pseudonym but want to be identified by your legal name in the copyright office records,  give your legal name and your pseudonym on your application for copyright registration.

You can use a pseudonym for the claimant name.

Your own statement has an answer to your subsequent question.

If you understand that the copyright should be in the real name then where is the question of using pseudonym in the copyright page of the book.

The pseudonym is only for the article of the book and not for the copyright purpose.
