• BMc is applying commercial tax on my apt being used as office

I have a small 1rk measuring 250sqft from where I run my professional interior designing work.
Recently I have received a notice saying that my residential property will now be charged as commercial property and taxed in the same bracket.
Need to know if this rule applies to my profession.

You cannot run a business in the residential complex until you are permitted to do so, hence if the authorities demand you to pay the taxes at the commercial rate you cannot avoid it  or else the room n be sealed or may be evicted

The interior designing profession are not having any exemption in this regard.

Interior designers are not exempt from commercial tax. Therefore you have to pay the tax. Only doctors or lawyers are exempt.

If you are an Architect, you can put part of the premises for your professional / office use.

The Notice for CT Department needs to be replied stating that, you are not carrying on commercial activity and same will not attract Commercial Assessment.
