Hi,

To be on safe side, it is better to change your status and have supporting documents with you while on tour.

Dear Madam,

Honeymoon Passport Name Change – Traveling After The Wedding

You’ve planned everything for your big day but one question remains, “Do I need to change my passport for my honeymoon”? Don’t worry because there are easy solutions that will allow you to enjoy your honeymoon without adding to the stress of wedding planning. A honeymoon passport name change can be handled in two different ways, both are easy and are nothing compared to what you had to do for your wedding seating chart! Here are two options for handling your name change for honeymoon travels.

Book all of your tickets in your maiden name. One way to avoid any problems with your upcoming international travel is by booking your boarding pass and all other tickets in the name that appears on your passport. For most people, this is their maiden name. As long as all of your tickets and forms of ID have the exact same name on them, you’ll be just fine.

Change your name on your passport. If your honeymoon is not immediately after your wedding you have the option to change your name on your passport. This allows you to have your airline tickets, lodging, and rental cars all under your married name. If you have a passport already submitting for a name change isn’t hard and it will most likely be free unless you need it expedited or if your passport is over 1 year old. You will need to submit the following by mail if your passport is UNDER one year old.

  • Fill out a DS-5504 Form
  • Passport
  • An original marriage certificate as proof of your name change
  • New passport photo

If your passport is OVER one year old you will need to submit the following by mail to complete your honeymoon passport name change.

  • Fill out a DS-82 Form OR a DS-11 Form depending on your eligibility
  • Passport
  • An original marriage certificate as proof of your name change
  • New passport photo
  • Fee – see Travel.state, gov to see what you will owe

You should still follow the timeline given for processing a passport which can be up to 8 weeks during the travel heavy summer months. Once you get your married name on your passport, you’ll be able to easily travel as a married couple from this point out. For any help obtaining a marriage certificate to submit with your name change request you can contact VitalChek to learn more about ordering a marriage certificate online.

Of course you can go for honeymoon before changing the marital status in your passport but you have to carry some documents to prove that you have got married in case it is required you can change the marital status in your passport after you come back to India accordingly so in future we should not carry any other proof of your marriage as the marriage registration is mandatory nowadays your marriage certificate issued by the registrar of marriages will be good enough to show that you are married couple

Changing of name is not mandatory after marriage as per law.

You should have sufficient documents , to show your marital status and the name of your spouse.

- Since, your financee has her indivudual passports , you and she will not face any problem in travelling abroad.

- Later on , she should add you name in her passport on the ground of mariage documents .

Good luck and dont forget to positive rating.

To travel abroad you need not change your respective marital status mandatory.

Since time is short travel with the existing passports.

Later when you have time then include your respective spouses name in the passport. before that there is no legal hurdle to travel but do carry your marriage certificate in the event immigration asks for it.

You can change your marital status if you want to, but it's not necessary. But another tip is that you can change it when you renew your passport. without changing marital status you can travel.
