Are there any drawbacks of applying for divorce first?

I'm a 51 year old woman, who has been married for 27 years. My husband has always abused me and my daughter ( currently 25 years old ). We both have now decided to live separately after he threw us out of our home after a fight. Although, he apologised a couple of times, but this has been a recurring behaviour all through out 27 years of my marriage. During these years, he has also hit me a few times and threw things in anger. I even have a few call recordings wherein he is abusing me, my daughter and my family members. I asked for a mutual amicable settlement, to which is he not agreeing to. And not even agreeing to file for mutual divorce. He is calling us back, so that he has someone to cater to his needs, but now we are scared for our safety, because there is no change in the behaviour. I and my daughter have been living away from him since last 2 months. Now, I wish to file for divorce and claim some money. My questions are - 1) what is the possible chance of getting divorce? 2) how much money can I claim? 3) how much time will it take considering he is adamant on not getting a divorce?
