Legal heir and civil suit

My father expired in April 2018. He had taken a loan from a Mr. X in 2008-09. At that time my father had issued two cheques to Mr. X as security. I have inherited a house from my father. Can the financier initiate a civil suit on me, for recovery of the loan? Additional facts: 1. Loan taken was Rs 50 L in cash. He claims that my father repaid 20 L and 30 L was due as on the date of my father's demise. All cash transactions. 2. Cheques issued were old instruments. Post 2008-09 RBI had replaced cheques twice. Financier had not replaced the cheques with new cheques. 3. The property in question is a inherited property for my father from my grand father. 4. Not sure how much relevant this point is. Mr. X was a also running a business, where my father was gurantor for the term loan taken business. My father mortgaged the property in question as gurantor. Mr. X cleared this term loan post my father's demise. Bank has asked me to collect the property documents. Will this additional point can be of any relevance? What measure should I take to protect myself?
