Name changed during naturalization (to Japan) - Procedure for name change in India
Dear Sir,
I took up Japanese citizenship in 2019 and as part of the process, I was given an option to opt for a different name. At that time I choose to use a shorter version of my name. This is my current status:
(Given-Name Surname) : Swaminathan Ganesh
- Birth-Certificate
- Indian School and Other Educational Certificates
- Indian PAN Card
- AADHAR Card
- Deed for Property in India.
- (Cancelled) Indian passport
(Given-Name Surname) : Swami Ganesh
- Japan passport
- OCI card
- SBI NRE account (SBI accepted the old passport and OCI as evidence of name change)
My current concern is around:
1) Property papers in India
2) PAN card
I don't think I care too much about the other documents (unless you think I should)
My question is:
1) To keep things simple and easy for the future, would you recommend that I go through the official name change process in India (affidavit + newspaper + gazette) ?
2) Japan has an official "family register" which is mandatory for every citizen. This document is in Japanese and indicates my old name in it. Would a notorized and apostilled original and English translation be a acceptable and perhaps the better way to evidence the name change in India?
3) Any other alternative that you would recommend?
