Recieving a legal notice from tennant for dispute over security deposit
Hello,
I have an apartment in Pune and it was let out for 4+ years to a tennant. We have had a notorised lease agreement for 11 months each time over the course of 4+ plus years.
Recently he vacated the flat and handed over the keys.
I got the flat checked and the flat had some cleaning and other repair issues and I deducted that amount from security deposit and returned the rest.
The tennant disagrees to part of the amount I deducted and has decided to send me a legal notice for the same since I do not agree to his disagreement.
Since I am staying outside India, I wanted to know what are my options.
1. Can I receive the legal notice over email, or to my over seas address?
2. If I get a legal notice do I need to answer it, or if I just pay off the money after getting the legal notice is it ok? - reason for this is I am not sure if he is just threating me with a legal notice or really planning to send one. Since I am out of India, it might not be possible for me to fight this case if it goes to court.?!
3. What are the implications of recieving a legal notice overseas? Does the country I live in have any other legal liability that I need to fulfil?
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards,
Sheetal.
