Recovery amount and legal action

I have been working in a company for 2 months and now I have resigned and I was on Notice period. I applied for resignation some days ago and since I had an urgency of joining a college for higher studies I confirmed to pay the recovery amount. They have relieved me now and have told me that the finance team will get in touch with me for the recovery amount. Now as per the company's answers to FAQs on recovery amount, and general trend , the recovery amount should be calculated over the fixed pay/Basic pay which in my case is around 12k to 14k. I am not sure about the policy as I was not able to find any document regarding the recovery amount. 1>What can I do if they ask for large figures beyond the fixed pay limit? 2>Can they take any legal action if I do not pay them the money considering the fact that my Last working Date is already gone and I have left the organization by submitting my company assets? 3>What is the maximum extent of actions they can take against me now? I will be able to pay even if its double my fixed or one month full salary. But beyond that its questionable.
