Sacking an employee without issuing showcase notice

One of the fitters working in my organization from 2012 had a problem with my Factory Manager and decided to quit. This incident occurred during January 2016. While doing so he said that he was resigning and he left the company quarrelling without giving any resignation letter. In February 2016 we get a letter from the Labor Officer that we have to come for a hearing. My operations manager went to the hearing and was handed over a copy of the complaint letter. My operations manager went and met with an advocate who drafted the response to this complaint letter. In this response he had mentioned that we had terminated this fitter. Finally the fitter had taken the failure report. The attendance for this fitter is as follows. 2016 - 2 Now this fitter has gone and filed a case in a court We have not received anything in writing from the court. However the court has contacted one of the labor law practicing advocate who apparently knows us very well and he had called and said that they had asked him to come in to discuss the case. However the advocate had told the court that he was busy for the next one month and he would come in due course of time to discuss about the same. Now we don't know what are our liabilities and of there is any recourse to this. The fitter is seeking employment. We are at this point of time feeling that if we do the same then we set up a bad precedence amongst the rest of the labors etc being employees in our company. Kindly let me know how we can handle the same..
