I have resigned from my company but not willing to serve notice period

Hello Sir/Madam, In August, 2017, I was approached by a person regarding a job, where he said that I am being hired for a leading IT service provider company (MNC). He told me that I will be on a third company's payroll for 3-4 months and then that MNC will take me on their payroll with a hike of 12-15%. I agreed and accepted the offer by replying on the mail. When I reached the MNC for joining on 16th of August, I was told that there is no policy for taking contractual persons on company payroll and I will have to work as a contractual employee for the entire duration of the project I was hired for. I took this matter to my recruiter but he said that I should not worry and they will take me. I was confused but started working on the project. As I spent some time in the company, I realised that there was not much work left for me in the project. I was not getting paid on time even after calling my employer many times. Due to all these issues, I resigned from my post after i got my salary for last month on 9th of October. Total duration of my work with the company was about 1 month and 21 days. As per the offer letter mailed to me, the notice period was 2 months. I always worked on a desktop so never had any company asset with me. Just have the id card for contractual, which I will mail back to the company soon. My question is, my employer and a few people from the MNC are threatening me for legal case. They are saying that I will be declared absconded and a police case will be filed against me. I don't want any relieving letter or experience letter from my company. Should I be afraid of anything or not? What can I do in self defence? Regards XYZ
